Current Supplements
Supplements are a great way to get a little extra out of a
workout, or help your muscles recover and grow. Currently my favorite supplements are pretty straight
forward.
Protein:
Optimum Nutrition Gold Standard 100% Whey
What I love about this protein is the fact
that it tastes really good, it’s not chalky or clumpy. I usually drink it with
milk, I find it’s better that way but I have also drank it with water.
The best time to take protein is after a workout, it helps
your muscles recover and rebuild. With that being said you don’t have to take
it only after a workout. If my protein intake for the day is way low, I’ll make
a shake. You can have it whenever.
Optimum Nutrition has amazing flavors and different sizes
you can order. I usually get all my supplements from Bodybuilding.com
Pre-workout:
Depending on what type of workout I will be doing I will either
take Preformix Ion pre workout or Cellucor C4 pre-workout.
The Preformix gives a steady even energy
source whereas the C4 hits you and you better be ready to lift, like now. I’ve
found I like both of them for different reasons. They both do exactly what I
want, like I said it just depends on what type of workout I have planned
determines which one I use.
BCAA:
BCAA : Branched Chain
Amino Acids refers to three amino acids: Leucine, Isoleucine, and Valine. BCAA
supplementation, for people with low dietary protein intake, can promote muscle
protein synthesis and increase muscle growth over time. It can also be used to
prevent fatigue in novice athletes.
I use these on heavy days, where I’m upping
my weight, usually drink them during my workout or after. They help prevent
fatigue and also help the muscles. I notice I’m less sore after heavier days
when I use BCAA. I’ve tried a few different brands and this is my favorite one
plus the flavor options are great.
Casein:
Casein is a slow digesting protein, rather than whey which
is a fast digesting protein. Typically, I take this at night before bed, where
I feel like I’m a bottomless pit. Instead of binging on a food late, I’ll have
this.
Casein also has amino acids which release slowly in your
bloodstream and last for hours. Combining Casein with whey protein studies show
results are greater for better lean, fat-free mass gains.
